Buffs soccer advances in Wichita North Cup

Wichita, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-So what if it took extra time?

Garden City earned every bit of Thursday’s win.

For the first time this season, the Buffaloes won a match on penalty kicks, beating Wichita Heights 4-1 in the semifinals of the Wichita North Cup.

The game remained scoreless through the first 80 minutes and then into two overtime periods. Finally Miguel Hernandez got the Buffaloes on the board with their first penalty kick. Alex Morales, Dat Hoang and Gilberto Tovar converted on there end as well.

Heights missed 3-of-their-4 penalty kicks; two of those were knocked away by goalie Kender Acevedo.

The Buffaloes improved to 9-4 overall and will play either Wichita West or Liberal on Saturday.
