Buffs golf sixth at state; soccer rolls TMP
Topeka, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-It’s been a busy month for Garden City High School girls’ golf coach Walker Frey. First he tied the knot; then he guided his team to a regional runner-up. Finally he packed his bags for Topeka and the 6A state tournament on Monday.
His girls responded with a sixth place finish. Senior Lindsay Bradstreet helped the cause by placing 10th at Topeka Country Club with a team-best 86. In fact, Bradstreet edged out Shawnee Mission East’s Marti Fromm and Manhattan’s Kylie and Keley McCarthy in a playoff. On the first hole of the playoff, Bradstreet bogeyed and watched the other three double bogey.
“It definitely was a good day,” Bradstreet said. “I’m so proud of my team and how they finished, and I can’t wait to see how they progress next year.”
The future definitely looks bright, with sophomore Danielle Gaspar placing 20th with a 91.
It’s the seventh straight year the Lady Buffs have had a top-10 finisher.

Records are always meant to be broken. Such was the case Monday afternoon at Buffalo Stadium, where Erik Barragan scored his 25th and 26th goals of the season-breaking assistant coach Anselmo Enriequez’s single-season mark. Sprinkle in Joaquin Padilla’s 300th career victory and freshman Alex Morales’ hat trick, it was a special night for the Buffs.
“I knew I was close; shows you how old I am,” Padilla said with a smile afterwards.
Garden City is back in action on Tuesday at Hays.
