Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-One thing is for sure: Garden City High School Athletic Director Martin Segovia will sleep a little easier this weekend.

After months of negotiations, Segovia and Head Coach Brian Hill finalizing a deal that will give the Buffs an all-Kansas schedule next season for the first time since 2009.

“It’s good that it will be all-Kansas schools because it makes it fair,” Segovia said. “We won’t have to worry about Oklahoma teams and their limitless scrimmages that they’re allowed. Now both teams will go off of KSHSAA standards.”

The Buffs will open the season with Class 6A Olathe East-the first of a home-and-home with the school (Hawks will travel to Garden in 2015).

Week two matches Garden City with current-district foe Maize, who drops down to 5A next year.

From there, the schedule is back to normal, with their Western Athletic Conference opener at Great Bend in Week 3, followed by games against Liberal, Hays and Wichita East. Buffaloes close the season with district games against Hutch, Wichita Northwest and Dodge City.
