Buffs baseball outlasts Southeast
Wichita, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-To say Bill Wilson’s team needed a win Friday, would have been an understatement-after all the Buffaloes were still fighting for positioning in the region standings. He needed someone to take the lead.
Enter senior Thomas Solorio, who’s one-out, two-run single in the top of the sixth broke a scoreless tie and opened the floodgates as the Buffs held off Wichita Southeast 5-4.
Following Solorio’s timely hit, Garden City added two more runs in the frame when Mario Montoya smoked a line drive, two-run single. Mitchell Hernandez run-scoring hit in the seventh served as insurance in a 5-0 game.
But Southeast wasn’t finished-plating four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Then with two outs, Daniel Flores got Chance Little to ground out to short-ending the threat.
