Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City High School baseball team (4-3) used both their arms and their bats to sweep a doubleheader against Wichita North (4-4) Friday night at Clint Lightner Stadium 8-1 and 12-2.  It was hard to determine which one was better the Buffaloes pitching or their hitting.

Offensively in the first game, Ivan Gutierrez helped his own cause on the mound with a RBI single in a two-run third.   Garden City then used the power of the triple to add another run in the fourth.  Emilio Parr led off with a triple, but needed Marcus Zapata’s two out triple to extend the lead at 3-0 over North start Eric Escamillia who was making his first varsity start.

Parr added his second triple in the fifth inning, this time the hit brought in Thomas Solorio and Ivan Gutierrez to make it 5-0 Buffaloes.  Garden City after giving up a run in the top of the sixth finished off the scoring with Jacob Rivas two run single to make it 8-1.  Ivan Gutierrez was in control on the mound scattering five hits and allowing just one run over five plus innings.  Daniel Flores pitched the final two innings getting the Redskins Jordan Doss to hit into a double play in the sixth and striking out two, while only allowing one base runner.

The second game read much the same for Garden City.  Out to a 1-0 lead in the second, Jacob Rivas had his first of three singles  driving in Emilio Parr to make 2-0 off Redskins starting pitcher Jordan Doss.  Mario Montoya was on the mound for the Buffaloes and gave up the lead for a brief time in the 4th when Caleb Burnett doubled in two to tie up the game at 2-2.

Garden City had eleven batters come up to the plate in the bottom of the 4th and scored seven runs to pull away 9-2.  Wichita North contributed with shoddy defense on three errors in the inning.  Mitch Hernandez singled in a run making it 7-2 and Parr added a two-run single knocking Doss from the game as the Buffaloes went up 9-2.  Garden City closed out the game with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to end early with a 12-2 run rule in six.

After the game, head coach Bill Wilson was pleased that his team is putting it all together.

Garden City hits the road for another conference matchup Tuesday night with Dodge City.  First pitch is at 6:30pm. Taco Bell pre-game begins at 6:15pm on westernkansasnews.com.
