Buffaloes Sweep Goodland 2-0 After Walk Off, Run Rule

GCHS

GARDEN CITY, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – It was a bitter sweet end at Clint Lightner Field Friday night after the Buffaloes entertained for two games straight. The Goodland Cowboys came into the night after starting the year 2-0, looking to cause problems with their pitching, and young scrappy hitting. In the first game, the cowboys would jump out to an early 11-3 lead after just two innings.

With the Buffs facing their first run rule, the bats lit up. In the 3rd, Perez would hit a double run home run into right field to help the buffs gain some momentum heading into the 4th inning. Now 11-5, the buffs would find 4 runs in a row with Elam, Perez, Whitehurst, and Wiese in the bottom of the 4th.

Offense wasn’t the only thing the buffs brought to the plate. Garden City would lasso the cowboys up quickly in the 5th and 6th, after going 3 up, 3 down. Heading into the 7th inning, the Cowboys would find a solo run by Deeds, to extend Goodland’s lead 12-9.

Caleb Wiese in the Bottom of the 7th would RBI single to bring in Perez, making it 12-11. Pressure all on Goodland now, with Chase McGraw on first. Emilio Zundt, a relief hitter for Isaiah Salinas, who was injured earlier in the 4th inning, would hit a single RBI to bring in Chase for the tie. Zundt would then steal to third, only to be left on after Ricardo Almonzo hit a pop fly into center for the 3rd out.

In the extra 8th inning, Goodland would quickly find a run, but the buffs would out do it with 2 more on a walk off double from no other than Freshman Evan Finch.
