Buffaloes and Demons fill up All-WAC football roster
The All-WAC football selections were released this week, and no surprise that the roster is filled with Buffaloes and Red Demons.
Garden City placed nine players on the first team; Dodge City had four.
On the first team offense, Garden City linemen Mario Chairez and Lorenzo Ruiz-Hernandez; quarterback Jesse Nunez and running back Peyton Hill made the squad while defensive linemen Demarcus Elliott and Juan Ponce; linebacker Zeke Herrera, whose 100 tackles and three interceptions returned for touchdowns also earned him conference player of the year honors, and defensive backs Quinton LaPointe, David Arteaga and Garrett Doll made the first-team defense. Wide receiver Jason Yi, defensive lineman Jasper Partin and linebacker Rico Cherico made the second team.
Dodge City offensive linemen Thomas Sanchez and Justin Schowengerdt made the first team while defensive lineman Marcos Fisher and Evan Darville made first-team defense. Offensive lineman Heriberto Real, quarterback Dawson Wiliams, running back Tylor Garcia, linebacker Clay Carpenter and defensive back Sam Unruh made second team.
Garden City’s Brian Hill was named coach of the year.
