Buffaloes Advance to Sub-State Final With Narrow Victory Over Wichita South-Audio
Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – The Garden City Buffalo boys Basketball team collected a narrow 56-45 victory over Wichita South in the semi-finals of their Sub-State Wednesday night at the “Garden”. The win propels the Buffs into the finals back at the “Garden” on Friday night to face their old rivals, the Dodge City Red Demons for the 3rd time on the season. Dodge City has won both previous meetings on the season.
In the match-up with the 2-18 Wichita South Titans it looked like the Buffs may run away with the game early in the 2nd quarter, as they were up by 13 at 27-14 with the ball. However, the Titans had other ideas as they began to pound the ball inside to their 6′ 6″ post man junior Jordan Moore who took control scoring 12 2nd quarter points to go with his five 1st quarter tallies to have 17 at the break. Wichita South would outscore Garden City 20 to 14 in quarter number two to tie the game at 30-30. It was again Jordan Moore in the third period for the Titans scoring all 9 points in the quarter and finishing the game with a double-double 28 points and 16 rebounds. The Buffaloes would respond with a 17 point surge of their own to gain a 47-39 lead at the end of three. In the 4th quarter Garden City would out score the Titans 9-6 to win the game 56-45 and push them on to the Sub-State Championship game on Friday to Face the Dodge City Red Demons, who had a fight of their with Maize at home Wednesday night, but pulled out a 43-36 win late in the 4th quarter. The Buffaloes had two players in double figures led by senior Austin Terpstra with 15 and junior Emillo Parr chipped in 11.
