Buffalo swimmers take home first place

Garden City, KS-Garden City girls high school swim team won its first meet of the season, beating Holcomb, Liberal and Dodge City Thursday afternoon at the Garden City YMCA.

The 200 medley team of of Grace Schmidt, Kirstin Neff, Emma Tull and Ashleigh Chappel qualified for state, finishing first with a time of 204.12, eight seconds better than second-place Dodge City. The same foursome won the 400-yard freestyle relay and qualified for state with a time of 4:10.28.

Schmidt won a pair of individual golds, taking home the 200-yard freestyle title with an impressive 2:13.50 as well as the 100-yard backstroke where she clipped Lea Weckerle from Dodge City by less than a second.

Neff won gold in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly while Chappel (Ashleigh) and Kaitlyn Chappel finished 1-2 respectively in the 100-yard freestyle.

Dodge City finished second, followed by Liberal and Holcomb.
