Garden City, KS-Joaquin Padilla can take solace in this: his team has battled defending state champ Dodge City close in two matches this season. And while he and his staff won’t take any moral victories, Garden City took their frustration out on Western Athletic Conference rival Liberal on Tuesday.

Kevin Bentiez scored the go-ahead goal in the 58th minute, Brian Carrera added an insurance goal 14 minutes after that, and the Buffaloes blanked Liberal 2-0 at Redskins Stadium.

“We didn’t start off great,” Benitez said afterwards. “But we came together in the second half and connected.”

The Buffaloes out shot the Redskins 18-5. Francisco Beciril recorded two saves.

Garden City improved to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the WAC.
