Buffalo soccer runs past Hays; DCHS winners in game one
Garden City, KS-Joaquin Padilla knew he was bringing back an experienced group. To his delight, the Buffaloes played like it on opening night.
Garden City scored three first-half goals as the Buffaloes pounced on Hays 5-1 Tuesday night at Buffalo Stadium.
“I still think we could have played better,” senior Brian Carrera. “But I’m glad we got the win.”
Carerra’s goal in the eighth minute off a gorgeous assist from Jesus Macias, put Garden City (1-0) in front. Five minutes later, Alonso Vera found the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage before Macias added his own in the 38th minute.
“It took us a while to get things going,” Padilla said. “But we got those two goals, and took off from there.”
The Buffaloes added two goals over the final 40 minutes: one by Emanuel Carrillo in the 62nd minute followed by Alec Keonsengphet’s score in the 75th minute.
Dodge City 11, Wichita South 0
Dodge City, KS-The defending state champs looked the part in game one, running right past the Titans. Joshua Donjuan scored four goals, as Dodge City overcame an early 1-0 deficit to score 11 consecutive times.
