Goddard, KS-With a young team, Garden City High School girls soccer coach Joaquin Padilla can expect to see a bit of a learning curve early on. Monday was a perfect example of that.

The Buffaloes gave up three goals in the first 38 minutes of the contest in losing to Wichita North 7-0 in the first round of the Goddard Invitational.

“We did some positive things, but there are a lot of concepts we need to work on,” defensive captain Jessica Adame said. “We need to learn how to finish.”

The Redskins jumped out early on Garden City, getting a goal from Kassandra Mendez-Castaneda in the 18th minute. They followed that up with scores from Estela Salas and Nayeli Gallo to take a 3-0 lead into the half. Evelyn Jimenez, Gallo, Yvonne Quezada and Michelle Ramstrack netted goals over the final 40 minutes.

“We will learn a lot from this,” Adame said. “We expect a different result on Thursday.”

The Buffaloes move to the consolation side of the bracket where they will play either Arkansas City or Goddard Eisenhower on Thursday.
