Manhattan, KS (westernkansasnews.com) A year in the making Governor Sam Brownback and the Kansas Water Office unveiled their second draft of the 50 year vision for water yesterday in Manhattan. Although the plan brings together the whole state, the goal is to establish smaller regional plans based on similar interests and concerns.

Director of the Kansas Water Office Tracy Streeter believes the state can reward those who are mindful of their water use.

Established goals will be re-evaluated in one year.  One of the most important parts contained in the water vision plan is sustaining the Ogallala Aquifer. Governor Sam Brownback sees the problem of the haves and have nots.

That is why Brownback wants to bring other states together in discussing the Ogallala’s future. A move Kansas Water Office Director Tracy Streeter agrees with.

When it comes to figuring the best ways at implementing the plan. Streeter knows here may be some disagreement in allowing local and regional management control of water.

Representative Ron Ryckman Senior of Meade is confident the legislature will keep all parties in line.

The comment period on the latest water vision proposal goes until January.
