Broncs baseball takes two from Scott City
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After picking their first win of the year on Thursday at Goodland, the Scott City baseball team was looking to extend their momentum into Tuesday, as they played host to the Lakin Broncs in their home opener. Lakin would spoil those plans, as they took two from the Beavers, winning game one 9-2, and the last game 17-0.
It was closely played for the most part for a majority of the first game. Lakin scored the first two runs of the game in the second, and then added two more in the fifth to make it 4-0. The Broncs doubled up their scoring in the sixth and added a run in the seventh, before Scott City plated two in their last at bat for the 9-2 final. Lakin outhit Scott City 9-4, as the Beavers committed five errors in game one. Kevin Aguilera had two hits and drove in a run for Scott City. Gustavo Gonzales took the loss, giving up nine runs, six earned on nine hits and struck out 10 batters in all seven innings pitched.
Game two saw the Broncs dominate the game from the onset, leading 2-0 after one and 4-0 after three innings. Scott City had issues getting the bats going. The Beavers only had one hit overall, coming from Kyle Cure. After leading 9-0 going into the seventh inning, Lakin poured it on, scoring eight runs to make the final 17-0. The Broncs also had 12 hits in game two. Sloan Baker took the loss, giving up six runs, four earned, on two hits, with 11 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Scott City is 1-4 on the season, and will host the Holcomb Longhorns on Friday for a GWAC doubleheader, while Lakin improves to 6-2, and hosts HPL foe Elkhart on Monday.
