Broncbusters drop conference showdown with Seward County
Garden City, KS (Garden City Community College Athletics) – It’s been a bit of Jekyll and Hyde for the Garden City women’s soccer team this season.
In their three wins, they’ve outscored their opponents an astounding, 36-2. But in their three losses, they’ve been outscored, 12-4.
Such is life in the Jayhawk Conference.
Natasha Vasquez scored a goal and assisted on another as Seward County beat Garden City, 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Broncbuster Stadium.
The Broncbusters, which fell to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play, struck first after the Saints failed to clear a ball four minutes into the match. That left the door open for Selena Poveda, who blasted a ball past Miu Kamei from 25 yards out.
Seward County responded in the 28th minute when Natoya Atkinson setup Vasquez for the equalizer. Less than two minutes after that, Atkinson scored the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1.
It didn’t stay that way for long as Jessica Newton responded in the 35th minute with her 14th goal of the season to tie it 2-2.
But the Saints answered swiftly and quickly when Meredith Rosas scored an unassisted goal to put Seward County up for good.
The Saints outshot Garden City, 12-10, and Ciah-Lilly Rudkin recorded four saves.
