Broncbuster teams split at Butler in conference opener
El Dorado, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College basketball teams opened conference play at Butler Saturday night. The Broncbuster men picked up an impressive win 75-59, while the women fell 77-53.
Russhard Cruickshank shot the lights out of the Power Plant to lead with 22 points, he was 6-10 from three point range. Pierre Johnson and Kendale Hampton also each scored 13 for GCCC.
The Broncbuster(5-0, 1-0) defense shined as well holding a Butler team that was averaging 123 points per game to 59 points and 28 percent shooting from the field.
The Broncbuster(2-2, 0-1) women struggled offensively for the second straight game shooting just 31 percent from the field and 22 percent from three point range.
One bright spot for the GCCC women was Monica Barefield, who made her season debut with 17 points and hit four three pointers.
Both GCCC teams are back in action on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at home against Barton.
