Broncbuster soccer women beat Pratt; men fall

9-8-2-edited

Pratt, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Charles Long’s team wouldn’t mind seeing Pratt a lot more often.

Two weeks ago to the day, Garden City demolished an overmatched Beaver squad 9-0 at Broncbuster Stadium. Not much changed 14 days later.

Despite a sluggish start, Garden City roared back to beat Pratt 5-1 Wednesday afternoon.

“We didn’t play our best match, but we still got it done,” Long said. “They came out ready to play in the second half.

Kelly Rameriz sparked the Garden City attack with three goals. Sierra Riveria and Leanne Klines also chipped in scores.

The Broncbusters, who improved 3-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference, out shot the Beavers 25-1.

Pratt dropped to 0-4 in the Jayhawk and 0-8 overall.

Men

Charles Long always preaches perfection with his men’s team.

On Wednesday, his team’s mistakes cost them dearly.

The Broncbusters missed out on several scoring opportunities, while Pratt capitalized on a plethora of Garden City miscues en route to a 5-1 victory.

“We played well; we just didn’t run our set plays the way they should have been ran,” Long explained. “That’s what this match came down to.”

Marcos Fernandez was the lone offensive spark plug for Garden City (7-5, 1-3), despite the Broncbusters firing 15 shots at Beavers goalie John Noelsaint.

Pratt scored their goals on three corners and two free kicks.

“They (Pratt) took advantage of what they had in front of them,” Long said. “We didn’t.”

With the victory, Pratt improved to 2-2 in the Jayhawk and 4-4 overall.
