Broncbuster basketball teams pick up wins on Friday
Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Both the men’s and women’s Garden City Community College basketball teams picked up wins on Friday night in the first night of the Broncbuster Shootout.
The Broncbuster women beat Trinidad State Junior College 52-42. GCCC nearly blew a double digit lead down the stretch as Trinidad cut it to 46-42 before the Broncbuster women closed the game on a 6-0 run to seal the win.
The entire starting give for the GCCC girls(1-0) scored at least 6 points. Dejanie Graves led the way with 10 points, Dez’Monique Johnson and Shakendra Tilley both scored 9 points.
The men won a little more comfortably as they beat Cedar Valley College 85-66. GCCC led at the half 47-25. Cedar Valley did make a run in the second half to cut the lead to seven at one point, before the Broncbusters pulled away for good.
GCCC(2-0) had six players score in double figures. Pierre Johnson led the way with 17 and Jamir Thomas had 15 points 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Elvis Harvey scored 12 points off the bench, Kendale Hampton and Theo Holloway both scored 11 points and Rushard Cruickshank had 10 points. The Broncbusters were 27-53 from the field shooting 51 percent and were 29-41 at the free throw line.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow night in the second night of the Broncbuster shootout. The women will play Lamar Community College at 6 p.m. and the men will play Sunrise Christian Academy at 8 p.m.
