Garden City, Kan. (GCCC Sports Information)–Garden City Community College head softball coach Trina Moquett has resigned her position with the Broncbuster program. Moquett has decided to pursue other opportunities outside of collegiate coaching.

Moquett spent a total of six years with the Broncbuster softball program. Her first four years were as an assistant coach for the program; she took over as head coach in 2010-2011. Moquett’s overall record as a head coach was 77-47, including a runner-up finish in the Region VI Tournament this past spring. The Busters came within one game of moving on to the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time in school history. The 2011 team set a number of offensive school records on their way to 43 wins, including Jennifer Buchwalter breaking the school record for home runs in a season and career.

In addition to the outstanding performance on the field, Moquett’s student-athletes have had a large amount of success off the field. In 2012 alone the Broncbuster softball team had six student-athletes receive national academic awards from the NJCAA. There will also be four players from the 2012 team moving on to play at the NCAA Division I or II level, highlighted by Alyssa Strobehn being accepted to the United State Military Academy at West Point where she is expected to be a part of the softball program.

“We are losing a quality individual in Coach Moquett,” said GCCC President Dr. Herbert J. Swender. “She did an outstanding job leading our softball program and being a positive example for the young ladies that she coached. Her outstanding service and contributions to Garden City Community College will be missed.”

“Trina has done an excellent job with the softball program here at GCCC and will be missed.” said Interim Athletic Director Ryan Ruda. “I wish her the best as she pursues other opportunities.”

Moquett will relinquish her duties at GCCC at the end of the month.
