Both DCHS Track Teams Place 3rd at Regionals
Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Both the girls and boys Dodge City track teams placed third at regionals. The boys amassed 106 points while the girls scored 101. The Red Demons will send 25 athletes to the state track meet in Wichita next week.
A win in the 4×100 relay highlighted the girls performance as the team of Chidera Okoro, Chiamake Okoro, Ezinne Okoro and Ayanna Page beat second place Garden City 50.25 to 51.24. Freshman Chidera Okoro also took first in the long jump with a distance of 17-02.50. Sophomore Ezinne Okoro took first in the triple jump with a distance of 36-08.00.
The boys team was led by their performance in the 1600. Senior Marcelo Cruz took first with a time of 4:40.86 and was followed by teammate Jason Luft in second at 4:43.45. Senior Alex Ultreras came in fourth.
Dodge City also took three of the top four spots in the 3200. Senior Marcelo Cruz took first at 10:01.36, senior Alex Ultreras finished second at 10:08.77 and sophomore Javier Marquez took fourth at 10:11.01.
Senior Samuel Unruh won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.45.
