Bombers take second
Lyons, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-The art of finishing-that’s what Finney County was unable to do on Tuesday afternoon. The Bombers finished second in the Lyons regional after a 10-0, five-inning, run-rule loss to Spring River.
“We got plenty of runners on second base,” Finney Coach Travis Brunson said. “We just couldn’t get them across; couldn’t get that critical hit.”
To be precise, the Bombers had just one base knock with a runner in scoring position all afternoon. In contrast, Spring River had plenty, and they didn’t waste any time squandering them.
One of those hits came in the bottom of the first. With runners at the corners, Chicago Elias lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Jarrett Dotson from third-giving Spring River a 1-0 lead.
The Bombers dug themselves a five-run hole before the wheels completely came off in the 5th. Spring River plated five runs while sending eight batters to the dish. Dotson’s line-drive single scored Jacob Williams to complete the run rule.
“The boys played hard; I’m proud of them for that,” Brunson said. “Now we’ll see what happens at regionals.”
Garden City will play host to regionals August 2-9.
