Blues roll in Clanton opener

Garden City, Ks (westernkansas)-It wasn’t a perfect performance, but Finney County starter Isaiah Rodriguez was as close to it as one could ask. The Blues ace stymied Alma’s bats in a 10-0, four-inning, run-rule victory Friday night at Williams Stadium.

“When your team gives you run support, all you can do is throw your best pitch,” Rodriguez said. “Tonight-with my fastball, my velocity was there and I was able to spot it.”

The Garden-City High School product was in command from the start. He struck out eight Charger hitters while only throwing 69 pitches in four innings of work.

“Isaiah was able to change speeds and keep them off balance,” Blues coach Lyle Befort said. “I tell all my pitchers, it doesn’t have to be your hardest strike; take something off of it and get them out in front.”

Rodriguez got plenty of offensive support. Finney County (19-5) slugged out just eight hits but took advantage of five wild pitches.

Edgar Montoya drove in three of the ten Blues runs; Rodriguez slapped two extra-base hits-seven of the nine Finney players recorded a hit.

Next up: Finney County vs. Minneola 11 am Saturday at Williams Stadium
