Blues finish third
Pratt, Ks (Westernkansasnews)-Good offense and no errors-it was the defining moment for Finney County in their 9-4 win over Alva, Ok in the third-place game of the Pratt tournament on Sunday.
“We need to tighten up our defense,” head coach Lyle Befort said. “That’s what cost us in the one game that we lost-three errors and then everything started to spiral out of control.”
The contrast on Sunday: no errors, and the Blues were in complete control from the start.
Finney County plated four runs in the 1st–thanks to three walks and a big double by Marcus Zapata.
The Blues would tack on five more runs in the fifth. It started when Jake Curran doubled to lead off the inning. After a Zapata single–Ian Jones slapped a two-run single into right field. The hits would keep on coming; in fact Finney County put together a string of six straight including RBI hits by Davin Baker and Robert Tomlin.
Garden City Community college quarterback Jake Curran picked up the win. He allowed just four hits and struck out seven.
The Blues finished 3-1 in the tournament. They return home Monday to play Hooker, Ok.
