Black Rhino “Howdi” Passes Away at Lee Richardson Zoo
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) A black rhino that has been a favorite of many people visiting Lee Richardson Zoo passed away yesterday a few months short of his 25th birthday. Rhinos typically live to be about 18 years old. “Ahani” also nicknamed Howdi made the zoo his home for most of his life coming from Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo in 1990. Howdi died during a procedure to close a hole caused by an abscessed tooth. Zoo staff say they are saddened by the loss.
