Big start early on lifts Scott City to rout of Russell
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It didn’t take long for the game for Scott City to take charge. In fact, it was in the first minute. The Beavers scored seven points in the first minute, and the first 25 points before Russell scored, on their way to an 81-29 thumping of the Broncos Tuesday night at Scott Community High School.
Seven points in the first minute may have been impressive for Scott City, (20-1), what was more impressive is that they scored 16 points in the first 1:47 of the game. After the first quarter, the Beavers led 28-3. In the second period, Scott City used an 11-0 run to build a 39-4 lead with 2:08 left before halftime. Russell (2-19) scored six straight to cut their deficit to 28 points, before a three-point shot by Chantz Yager at the end of the half pushed the Beaver lead to 44-13. Scott City almost topped their first quarter point total in the third frame alone, outscoring the Broncos 27-6 to take a 71-19 lead after three. Both teams scored 10 points in a running clock in the fourth quarter, as the Beavers cruised to their 20th win of the season. Scott City finished with three players in double figures, led by Trey O’Neil with 26 points, Brett Meyer with 15 and Sloan Baker with 10. Russell got seven points apiece from Mason Beagley and Jerrit Zvolanek.
With the win, Scott City picked up their 20th win, marking the fifth straight year of at least 20 wins. The senior class has lost only one home game in their career.

Scott City will play Minneapolis on Friday night, who is coached by SCHS alum Alex Hutchins. Hutchins is also a brother to current Beaver Dylan Hutchins. The Lions held off Ellsworth 54-51 for their third win over the Bearcats this year. Ellsworth missed a three-point shot at the end of regulation. On the bottom of the bracket, Beloit scored 104 points against Phillipsburg for the second time this season, as they outlasted the Panthers in a 104-63. The Trojans will take on Norton, who plastered Hoisington 77-51.
