Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Friday night’s girls game with Scott City and Cimarron was a game that truly was a tale of two halves. The Lady Beavers would come out and make a statement with their defense early one, while the second half saw the Lady Blue Jays get hot and dominate the glass. Cimarron would outscore Scott City 34-6 in the second half to take a 52-30 win on Friday night at Cimarron High School. The boys game was postponed, due to the Cimarron boys being put in quarantine on Wednesday.

The game would be back and forth early on, as they team exchanged the lead three times in the opening eight minutes, as the Lady Beavers took a 9-8 lead after the first period. Scott City expanded on their run, and used an 8-2 run over the first four-plus minutes of the second frame to lead 17-10 with 3:36 left before halftime. Every Lady Bluejay rally would see a response by the Lady Beavers, as they would take a 24-18 lead at the break.

Cimarron would become a different team in the second half, as they scored the first eight points of the third frame to lead 26-24 with 4:21 left in the quarter. Scott City would respond back and forth, and take the lead at 30-29 with 2:18 left in the third quarter. That would be their last lead, and unfortunately, their final points of the night. The Lady Bluejays scored the final seven points of the period in the final period to take a 36-30 lead into the fourth quarter. In the final eight minutes, it was all Cimarron. They would outscore Scott City 16-0 in the final quarter, and pulled away for a 52-30 win.

Three Lady Bluejays would be in double figures, led by Emily Acton with 12 points, while Jayna Wilson scored 10 off the bench, and McKayla Miller had 10 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Cimarron had 16 turnovers and went 12-15 at the line, and outrebouneded the Lady Beavers 42-16. Scott City was led by Brooke Strine, who had a career-high 14 points, as they went 8-14 at the foul line and had eight turnovers.

With the win, Cimarron snaps a four-game losing streak to Scott City in the series, and now leads the all-time series 11-9. It was their first win against the Lady Beavers on their home floor since 2017.
