Beverly Olomon, 92 died Friday, August 26, 2016 at her home in Garden City. She was born September 21, 1923 in Brewster, Kansas the daughter of Walter & Lucy (Sonday) Strain.
Beverly grew up in Brewster where she attended school. After graduating from Brewster High School, Beverly attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University in 1945. She then moved to Garden City where she has lived since. Beverly taught Latin and English at Garden City High School for 25 years. She retired in 1988. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City; a member of Crist Circle; Godmother’s; the Builders Sunday School Class; and she volunteered for various organizations throughout Garden City. Beverly enjoyed traveling, flowers, gardening, reading, sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles, and having coffee with friends.
On December 27, 1947, Beverly married Bernard A. Olomon in Brewster, Kansas. He died on March 29, 1974. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a brother Dean Strain; and a Son-In-Law Rob Schreiber.
Survivors include her three children Denise Schreiber of Garden City; Kathleen & husband Michael Laubhan of Wichita, Ks., and Kirk S. Olomon of Garden City; and a grandson Scott Schreiber of Nashville, Tn.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday all at Garnand Funeral Home. The family request memorials given to the Godmother’s of the First United Methodist Church or to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
