Betty Mae Bailey
Betty Mae Bailey, 90, died June 3, 2015 at the Shepherd Center in Cimarron, Kansas. She was born on July 31, 1924 at Haggert, Kansas the daughter of Harry and Jeanie (Wilson) Jacques.
She grew up and attended grade school and high school in Tribune, Kansas, and Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas. On June 27, 1943, she married Warren G. Bailey in Dodge City, Kansas. Warren preceded her in death on October 1, 1998. Betty was a homemaker and worked in food services for the Dodge City Community College and the Dodge City School District. In her early years of marriage to Warren, they loved to camp and go boating. Betty was an avid reader. She loved sports- especially the Kansas Jayhawks. She was a loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her two sons.
Survivors include sons Kent Bailey and his wife Janet of Dodge City; her son Kirk Bailey and Sherilyn Hopkins of Dodge City; one sister Alice Wagner of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; one brother Bud Jacques of Chicago, Illinois; one brother-in-law Bob Bailey of Cedar Vale, Kansas; and one sister-in-law Joy Block of Seattle, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents, three sisters Irene Hunt, Ethel Stotts, and Pauline Peterson, and one brother Don Jacques.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, June 8, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or The Shepherd’s Center in care of the funeral home.
