Betty Jane Duesing
Betty Jane Duesing, 93, died May 4, 2017 at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge. She was born on September 12, 1923 on the family farm between Spearville and Kinsley in Edwards County, the daughter of Adam and Josephine (Dolechek) Spahn.
Betty began her schooling at St. Nicholas school in Kinsley. Her remaining elementary school years were completed at Midway Palace Country School near the family farm. She went on to graduate from Spearville High School. After graduation, Betty continued her education at Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. After her graduation from the business school, she went to work for the air base in Dodge City at the beginning of World War II. On January 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to Eugene George Duesing in Camp Forrest, Tennessee. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1980. After their marriage, they lived in Spearville before moving to Dodge City in 1955. Betty later worked for JC Penney in Dodge City as the supervisor in the stockroom for 27 years. She was a crossword expert, played bingo seven days a week, and was an avid reader.
She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella, Senior Center all of Dodge City, and was an alumni of the Farm Bureau 4-H.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Victoria Tague and husband Kenneth of Dodge City; five grandchildren, Laura George and husband Charlie of Coral Springs, Florida, Ryan Tague and wife Melissa of Dodge City, Niles Duesing and wife Amie of Fowler, Adam Duesing of Dodge City, and Deiedra Rogers and husband Toby of Spearville; 10 great grandchildren, Seth Tague, Dylan, Hunter, and Reagan Duesing, Jessica and Danielle Navarrete, Kayla Villalovos and husband Eddie, Michael and Tyler Rogers; and seven great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Eugene, she is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Larry Duesing; a grandson, Matthew Duesing; and two great grandsons, Jonathon and Scotty Tague.
Graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Offerle on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Wesley Schawe presiding. Friends may sign the guest book at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Monday May 8, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The casket will remain closed. Memorials are suggested to the Ford County Humane Society, Dodge City Senior Center, or KHYM Christian Radio in care of the funeral home.
