Betty Jane Broadbooks
Betty Jane Broadbooks, 90, died March 3, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. She was born on June 15, 1925 at Edwardsville, the daughter of James and Bettie E. (Hurd) Barger.
Betty was a 1943 graduate of Dodge City Senior High School. On December 30, 1965 she married Ray Broadbooks, Jr at Cimarron. She was a secretary for Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1950 to 1981. Betty and her husband owned and operated Southwest Hearing Aid Center until 1986.
She was a member of the Saint Cornelius Episcopal Church of Dodge City and Church Altar Society, Salvation Army Auxiliary and served on the Advisory Board, Telephone Pioneers, PEO Chapter GA, and Athenum Club.
Betty is survived by two step daughters, Patty Lohr of Andover and Janie Stecklein and husband Jerry of Wichita; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two brother-in-laws, Raymond Nau of Dodge City and Clayton Ferguson of Montezuma; a niece, Sandy Blasak of Wichita; and nephew, Mark Ferguson and wife Alice of Monezuma; and dear friend, Theresia Trent of Dodge City and many other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Broadbooks, Jr.; and three sisters, Hazel Nau, Dena Ferguson, and Lena Neifine; and step daughter, Margaret Adams.
Graveside service will be held at Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Katie Hargis presiding. Friends may sign the guest book at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from Noon to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or St. Cornelius Episcopal Church both in care of the funeral home.
