Bertha Mary McFadden, 93, died February 24, 2017, at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton. She was born on October 4, 1923, in Horace, KS, the daughter of George Kenneth and Lulu (Harper) Foster.

Bertha Mary spent her childhood in the Tribune area. She graduated from Greeley Co. High School and attended Fort Hays Kansas State Teachers College where she received a lifetime teaching certificate. She taught in Greeley County and Montezuma. On June 15, 1945, she was united in marriage to Theodore F. McFadden in Satanta. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2003. They made their home in Montezuma after their marriage and raised four children. In 2000, they moved from Montezuma to Newton to be closer to family. Bertha Mary was an avid reader who enjoyed quilting, antiquing, and gourmet cooking. Her greatest joy was her family.

She was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

Bertha Mary is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert McFadden and wife Jan of Durant, Oklahoma and Mike McFadden of Topeka; two daughters, Patricia Regier of Newton and Janice Rages and husband Dan of Hutchinson; a sister, Carol Hargett of Cimarron; seven grandchildren, Nick (Shannon) Regier of Lakeville, Minnesota, Kevin (Diana) Regier, Granby of Colorado, Sarah (Jeremy) Henning of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kara (Dr. Brandon) Sumner, Ankeny, Iowa, Jennifer Regier, Manhattan, Dr. Jonathan McFadden, Washington DC, and Katie Rages (Josh Koehn), Montezuma; and seven great-grandchildren, Harrison, Hope, and Hayden Regier, Gibson and Karis Regier, and Lauren and Emma Sumner. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, two sisters, and a son-in-law.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma United Methodist Church on Monday February 27, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Javier Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma, on Sunday February 26, 2017 from noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Montezuma United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
