Beavers pick up two more wins against Goodland

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two of the top three teams in the GWAC met up in a pivotal doubleheader Tuesday in Scott City, as the Beavers played host to Goodland. While the teams were separated by two games, it would be a one-sided affair in both games. Scott City would pull away in the first game with a 10-0 win in game one, and use a big third inning to complete the sweep with a 12-4 victory in the finale.

Scott City 10, Goodland 0, Game 1
The Cowboys would hang tough early, as Scott City took an early 2-0 lead after an inning and would grow it to 4-0 after three innings. In the fifth, the Beavers opened things up with four runs, and finished the game with a run with one out in the sixth inning to take the 10-0 win. Harrison King led the offensive charge, with three hits and four RBI, and Easton Lorg had three hits and drove in two runs. Scott City had three hits in the game, and took advantage of five Cowboy errors. JP Harris went 5 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and striking out eight. Cole Linton took the loss for the Cowboys, as he gave up eight runs, only two earned, on nine hits with seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. 

Scott City 15, Goodland 2, Game 2
The Beavers would continue their best hitting performance of the season in the finale of the day, as they led 2-0 after two innings, and blew the game wide open in the third frame with a 10-run inning. That broke a two-all tie, after the Cowboys plated two in the top of the third inning. Scott City added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure the 15-2 win. Harrison King would continue his hot hitting, with two hits and three RBI, including an inside the park home run. Jeffery Nix also had two hits and three RBI, while Blaine Culp drove in two runs on two hits. Easton Lorg went the first three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits and struck out five. Brady Welker ended up with the win in two innings of relief, striking out four and didn’t surrender a hit. Scott City had 10 hits in game two. Manny Gonzalez took the loss for the Cowboys, giving up 11 runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings on the mound. Brock Mull had an RBI for Goodland. 

Scott City remains up a game on Holcomb in the GWAC standings, as they are now 9-1 in league play, and 13-1 overall. They will host an Ellis team that is 10-0 on the year. Goodland drops to 4-4 in league play and 6-6 overall, as they take on Ulysses at home on Friday.
