Beavers begin GWAC play tonight at Colby
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two teams who have been on opposite ends of the spectrum meet up at Dennen Field in Colby tonight, as Scott City and Colby renew a rivalry to begin Great West Activities Conference play.
Scott City looked good in their season-opening win over the Clearwater Indians last Friday night at Darner Field, collecting a 37-0 victory. The Beavers scored on three consecutive possessions in the first and second halves to cruise to their seventh straight week one win. In the win, Scott City, ran up 284 yards on the ground and 410 yards of total offense, while slowing down the Indians, allowing only 185 yards of offense, only 31 on the ground. The Beaver defense was solid, as Clearwater threw 37 passes, and completed only 15 of them.
Colby had a 10-0 lead heading into the final quarter against rival Oakley last Friday night, only to see the Plainsmen score on an 82- yard touchdown pass and a 62-yard fumble return for a touchdown in less than a minute in the fourth quarter. The Eagles did out gain the Plainsmen 265-97, but did commit four turnovers.
Scott City has won the last 10 meetings in the series dating back to 2000. Last year’s game margin of 16 was the closest margin of victory for the Beavers during the win streak.
