Beaver baseball sweeps Cimarron

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After being postponed earlier in the week, Scott City was able to play host to Cimarron in the first-ever matchup between the two teams. On a nice Saturday afternoon in Scott City, the Beavers would maintain their lead atop of the GWAC, with wins of 9-1 and 5-3 over the Bluejays.

In Scott City’s 9-1 win, the Beavers led 1-0 after two innings and saw Cimarron tie the game up in the third. After that, Scott City would take over, with two runs in the third and fourth, and padded their lead with three runs in the sixth. JP Harris would hit a home run and drive in two runs, while Lawson Bailey had a triple and had three RBI for the offense, as they finished with nine hits in the game. Easton Lorg had three hits. Harrison King went four innings for the win, giving up an unearned run on two hits and struck out five. Jeffery Nix went the final three innings, and didn’t allow a hit and had four strikeouts.

The 5-3 game would be a well-contested game, as the Bluejays scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, while Scott City scored two in the bottom of the frame, and pushed their lead to 4-1 after four innings. Cimarron tacked on a run in the fifth and seventh innings, while the Beavers added their final run in the fifth. JP Harris went 2 2/3 innings, giving up a run on two hits and struck out seven. Brady Welker would get the win in relief, allowing a run on three hits with eight strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings relief. Easton Lorg would pitch an inning, allowing an unearned run. Harrison King had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Lorg had a two-hit game and scored three runs. Scott City ended up with four hits in the game. 

Scott City improved to 11-1 overall, and 7-1 in GWAC play, as they will host Goodland on Tuesday. The Cowboys enter one game back in the league standings. Cimarron dropped to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in league play, as they will play at Colby on Tuesday.
