Zoo’s Bald Eagle Passes on Fourth of July
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Officials at Lee Richardson Zoo suffered a loss on the 4th of July. Ironically the symbol of America is the bald eagle and the zoo’s own bald eagle, Buddy died on Monday at the age of 30. Typically bald eagles live around 16 years.
Buddy had been at Lee Richardson Zoo since 1986 after being found in Alaska with a broken wing. The zoo would like to bring in another bald eagle to Garden City and will attempt to begin the process, but its uncertain how long it will take since the species is protected by federal law.
