Baker reflects back on his rookie season with the Knicks

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was definitely an eye opener for Ron Baker playing on the biggest stage. The Scott City alum and former Wichita State Shocker persisted through, earning his spot on the Knicks roster, and becoming a fan favorite. Baker is taking in the moment.

As a rookie, it took time to adjust not only to living in New York, but also the adjustment to the NBA life. Baker took advantage of his playing time as the season wore on, averaging four points, two rebounds and two assists in over 16 minutes of play in his rookie season. With his efforts, he earned a new two-year contract worth nearly nine million dollars earlier this month to stay with the Knicks.

New York also made some changes in the front office. Phil Jackson was dismissed, and recently, the Knicks named Steve Mills President and Scott Perry General Manager.

Baker is conducting basketball camps Friday through Sunday in Andover, Wichita and Garden City. The Garden City camp will be Sunday at Horace Good Middle School. Session 1 for Girls grades K-12 and boys grades K-3 will be from 12:30-3:30 and boys grades 4-12 will run from 4-7 pm.
