Authorities Warn About Phone Scams

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Finney County people are once again dealing with an old scam. The scam fools people into paying a fine for missing jury duty.

According to the Finney County Sheriff’s office, a Finney County man reported he was contacted by a man saying he had missed jury duty and that paying a fine would make the criminal charge go away.

The scammer had the man give him a pre-paid Visa car number and took over $1,000 from him.

The sheriff’s office wants people to know that if you are called for jury duty you will receive a questionnaire in the mail from Finney County District Court. After returning the questionnaire people will be contacted with the dates to appear.

The sheriff’s office is asking that people who get similar calls to report them to law enforcement.
