Audrain one shot off school record; Buffs take WAC title

Liberal, KS-Willow Tree Country Club in Liberal has been a kind place to Garden City golfers over the years. 

In 2012, Austin Swender set the school record by shooting a 66. Four years later, Sion Audrain nearly accomplished the same feat. 

The freshman’s 67 was one shot back of Swender’s mark but plenty good enough to claim the individual conference crown and WAC player of the year honors. 

“I played well, and it felt good,” Audrain said afterwards. 

Garden City placed first as a team, followed by Dodge City and Hays, who both tied for second. 

Buffaloes coach Jake Waller was named the coach of the year.
