A’s top Lonestar in last NBC World Series pool play game

Wichita, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s beat Lonestar 5-2 in their final game of NBC World Series pool play Tuesday. Now they must wait for the result from the Seattle Studs v.s. Santa Barbara Foresters game to determine their fate.

A Santa Barbara win would mean the A’s would advance to tournament play on Thursday. While a Seattle win would force a three-way tie that would be determined by run differential and would probably leave Dodge City out.

The A’s got off to a slow start leadoff man Ryan McPhail reached on an error by third baseman Adam Hollar and was brought in to score on a double by Joe Davis. Dodge City struck back in the bottom half with a two-run double from Dayton Cook to make it 2-1.

The A’s added a run in the second on an RBI single by Zak Felix to make it 3-1. Lonestar moved closer in the top of the sixth with a solo homerun from Mitchell Caskey to make it 3-2. Dodge City then scored two run in the bottom half to extend the lead on an RBI single by Kyle Cullen, who then came in to score on a balk making it 5-2.

Felix led the A’s at the plate going 3-4 with two singles, a double and an RBI. Cullen was 2-4 with two singles and an RBI and Cook was 1-3 with a double and two RBI.

Anthony Villegas got the win in a stellar performance throwing eight innings and allowing just two runs and four hits with five strikeouts on 89 pitches. Conner Van Cleave got the save.
