A’s top Derby to win weekend series

Derby, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s jumped out to an early lead Sunday night and never looked back, winning 8-3.

The A’s scored three runs in the top of the first on an RBI single by Owen Jansen and a two run double by Daylan Nanny. Derby got one run back in the bottom half on an RBI single from Michael Urquidi to make it 3-1.

Dodge City added another run in the second on an RBI single from Jordan Vujovich to stretch the lead to 4-1. Carlos Arrellano delivered a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-1. The Twins responded in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Toi Moyer to cut the lead to 5-2. Then in the bottom of the sixth Wes Anderson hit a solo homer to pull the score to 5-3, that was as close as Derby would get.

In the top of the seventh Owen Jansen hit a solo homerun to stretch the lead to 6-3. Then in the ninth the A’s added two insurance runs on RBI singles from Nanny and Dylan Johnson to make it 8-3.

Nico Mayoral(3-0) got the win pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Nanny led the A’s at the plate going 2-5 with a double, single and three RBI. Jansen was 2-5 with an RBI double and solo homerun.

The A’s(12-10) moved back into third place with the win and are a half game ahead of Derby(12-11). The A’s are back in action Tuesday night at home against Great Bend.
