As State Sinks Further in the Hole, Doll Urges a Different Approach on Taxes

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) For the fourth straight month the state of Kansas has taken in less tax money than anticipated.  State Representative John Doll of Garden City believes the current tax structure has a lot to do with it.

Since this year’s sales tax increase isn’t getting the job done, Doll wants to bring back the income tax.

The state is in 159 million dollar shortfall for the rest of the year. Changing the tax structure in Kansas to turnaround mounting budget deficits will not be easy. State Representative John Doll of Garden City does not believe bringing back the income tax is a hard sell with the public.

But it is with Governor Brownback.

Governor Brownback’s budget director has already outlined 124 million budget adjustment. Revenue estimates for 2017 are already down almost $200 million dollars.
