A’s split double header with El Dorado

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s split a double header with the El Dorado Broncos Saturday winning the first game 6-4 and dropping the second 11-2.

Game one

The A’s struck first in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single by Conner Van Cleave to take a 1-0 lead. The Broncos tied the game in the second on an RBI groundout by Tucker Catlett. El Dorado then took the lead in the third on an RBI double by Maddux Solomon to make it 2-1.

The Dodge City bats came alive in the fourth inning scoring three runs on an RBI sac-fly by Casey Opitz and a two-run homerun by Daylan Nanny to take a 4-2 lead. The Broncos got one run back in the fifth on an RBI groundout by John Sorensen to cut the score to 4-3. The A’s would stretch the lead in the fifth with an RBI single by Van Cleave and a solo homerun by Jordan Vujovich to make it 6-3. El Dorado scored a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Tanner Scheutz.

Trevor Munsch(3-1) got the win for the A’s pitching five innings and allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Brock Knoten picked up his seventh save of the season.

Game two

El Dorado jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first with a solo homerun from Jaret Koin. The Broncos added three more runs in the third inning on an RBI single from Koin and a two-run double by John Sorensen to stretch the lead to 4-0. The A’s scored their first runs in the bottom half on a passed ball and an RBI single by Conner Van Cleave to make it 4-2.

The Broncos stretched the lead in the fourth on a three run homerun by John Sorensen making it 7-2. El Dorado then added an RBI single from Conner Allen in the fifth and three runs in the seventh on an RBI sac-fly by Koin, a solo homerun from Tanner Scheutz and a passed ball to make it 11-2.

Rustin Hays(1-0) go the win for the Broncos(15-18) pitching all seven innings and allowing just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.

The loss ends an eight game winning streak for the A’s. At 20-12 they currently lead Liberal by one game for second place in the Jayhawk League. Dodge City will finish the series with El Dorado Sunday night at 7 p.m.
