A’s overcome slow start to win at Liberal
Liberal, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s bounced back from a bad loss Monday night to take down the second place Liberal Bee Jays on Independence Day 8-2.
The A’s overcame a slow start as starter Brady Rodriguez walked three and hit one batter in the first inning. The Bee Jays(13-9) took the lead 2-0 on an RBI sac-fly and RBI single from Jack Krauel. From there Rodriguez(4-0) settled in pitching five innings allowing two runs on just two hits.
The Dodge City bats came alive in the fifth inning scoring five runs. Jordan Vujovich delivered a two-run single, Adam Hollar brought in a run when he was hit by a pitch and Owen Jansen had an RBI sac-fly to make it 5-2. The A’s added another run in the seventh on an RBI sac-fly from Dante Faichio to stretch the lead to 6-2. Dodge City then scored two runs in the ninth on walks to Kyle Cullen and Vujovich making it 8-2.
Hayden Udall(2-1) took the loss for Liberal allowing five runs and seven hits in four innings. After Rodriguez left the A’s got four innings of scoreless relief work from Nic Wilson and Brock Knoten.
Vujovich led the A’s at the plate going 2-5 with two singles and three RBI. Faichio went 3-4 with three singles and an RBI.
The A’s(9-9) have now won three of four meetings with the Bee Jays. The two teams will play again Thursday night in Dodge City, pregame at 7:15 p.m. first pitch at 7:30 on 95.5 FM and swksradio.com.
