A’s fall to Santa Barbara in slugfest

Wichita, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s lost to the Santa Barbara Foresters in an NBC World Series record setting game 20-12 Sunday night. The teams set a record for combined runs(32) and combined hits(38).

The A’s struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Blaine Ray. The Foresters tied the game in the top of the second on an RBI sac-fly by Utah Jones and an RBI single Slade Heggen. Dodge City then tallied four runs in the bottom half on another two-run single by Ray and RBI singles by Tanner Scheutz and Dayton Cook to make it 6-2.

With the game the A’s leading 6-3 in the fourth inning Santa Barbara exploded for ten runs led by a two run homerun by Heggen and a two run inside the park homer by Brandon Lewis to take a 13-6 lead.

Dodge City  battled back to cut the deficit to 14-12 before the Foresters exploded again for six runs in the seventh to make it 20-12 and end the game by run rule after seven innings.

Ray led the A’s at the plate going 2-4 with four RBI and two singles. Tanner Scheutz went 2-3 with a double, single and two RBI and Adam Hollar was 3-4 with a double, two singles, an RBI and three runs scored. Dayton Cook was 2-4 with two singles and two RBI.

Heggen led the Foresters(2-0) going 4-5 with two homeruns, two singles and five RBI. Lewis went 2-5 with a homerun, double and four RBI and Ryan Cash was 3-5 with a double, two singles and three RBI.

The A’s(1-1) will play again on Tuesday against Texas Lonestar with the time to be determined. Dodge City needs to win to advance to Thursday.
