A’s crippled by errors in loss to Aviators
Haysville, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The A’s dropped game three and the series to the Haysville Aviators 8-5 . Dodge City committed five errors in the loss.
Haysville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The first run came in following an error by the A’s pitcher Anthony Villegas and a passed ball then Shea Gutierrez delivered an RBI single.
The A’s responded in the fourth and fifth inning, Isaiah Haddad delivered an RBI double, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple before Daylan Nanny could score the second run. In the fifth Dodge City would take a 3-2 lead following an RBI single by Owen Jansen and an RBI groundout by Conner Van Cleave.
The Aviators delivered in the bottom half scoring four runs with two outs to take a 6-3 lead. Damond Nixon had an RBI single and then Zack Nogalski drilled a two run homer. Byron Smith rounded out the inning with an RBI single.
The A’s(2-2) would get back within two in the sixth inning when Jake Cruce scored on a throwing error from catcher Byron Smith. The Aviators(2-4) scored two more unearned runs, one in the sixth and one in the eighth to make it 8-4. Sean Noel had an RBI single in the ninth to make it 8-5.
Anthony Villegas(0-1) got the loss pitching five innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits and striking out 8. Taylor Kopplin(1-0) got the win for the Aviators pitching 5.2 innings allowing four runs on six hits. Shea Gutierrez went 3-5 with two doubles, a single, an RBI and two runs.
