Annual “Shoot for Scholarships” Fundraiser Set for October 26

[Garden City, KS, Oct. 2, 2019–] The Garden City Community College Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Endowment Association will host the 2019 “Shoot for Scholarships” fundraiser on Saturday, October 26.  The annual event is a community-engaging pistol, rifle, and shotgun competition, held at the Sand and Sage Gun Range in Garden City.  Participants will be placed into teams of three and will be joined by a DPS student. 

The complete teams of four will compete for 1st and 2nd place.  An individual 1st place prize will be awarded, as well as additional prizes for .22 side matches.  Funds raised will go toward scholarships for students who are enrolled in the GCCC Department of Public Safety programs. 

Participant check-in on the day of the event is from 8:00AM to 8:45AM, followed by a mandatory safety briefing and the start of the competition at 9AM.

Registration is $30 per person or $50 per team. Participants can register by visiting https://www.gcccks.edu/events/shoot_for_scholarships.aspx or with a paper registration form from the GCCC DPS department.  Participants ages 16 and 17 must have a parent present at the event.  All participants must provide their own guns and ammunition. Ammunition requirements for the competition can be found on the Shoot for Scholarships webpage. Additional ammunition will be available for purchase on-site, while supplies last.

Partnerships making the 2019 Shoot for Scholarships event possible include: Garden City Endowment Association, Garden City Police Department, Sand & Sage Gun Club, Finney County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Garden City Trap & Skeet Club.
