Agnes N. McVey, 99 died Saturday, October 26, 2013 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. Born in Davis County, Iowa, Agnes grew up in Savannah, Iowa and attended Davis County Public schools. On October 2, 1932, she married Thomas A. McVey of Lakin, Kansas. Agnes was a Lakin resident since 1942 and a church member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Lakin. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Women’s VFW Auxiliary during WWII. She worked several years at Fishers IGA as well as a representative for Rose’s House of Flowers. She liked to travel, play cards and spend time with her grandchildren. Agnes especially liked to dance and spent most Saturday nights with her husband, dancing the nights away.

Agnes is survived by a daughter Shirley & husband Marlan Barstow of Springview, Ne.; a son Jerry & wife Beverly McVey of Milford, Ks.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 7 great- great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Tom who died on March 23, 2001; a daughter Donava Maxwell on March 29, 2012; her parents John & Lydia Brunk; 5 sisters Golda Iowa Cole, Augie Mildred White, Helen Imogene Brunk, Wilma LaDean Howard, & Bernice Elaine McVey; and 5 brothers Bernie Lee Brunk, William Earl Brunk, Willis Eugene Brunk, Verne Edson Brunk, & RJ Brunk.

Visitation: 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 01, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin, Kansas with Rev. Rita Stockton officiating.

Interment: Lakin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials given to the High Plains Retirement Village or to Wounded Warriors both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
