Addie Mae Hillery
Addie Mae Hillery, age 90, passed away at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas on Friday, May 1, 2015. She was born on May 31, 1924 in Logan County, Kansas, the daughter of Rassie and Addie Harper Strickler. Mae was the third born in a family of four children. She attended a rural Logan County grade school and then graduated from high school in Scott City.
Following high school Mae moved to Kansas City, Kansas and was employed there for a few years before returning to Scott City. Mae was then employed at Firestone where she met Cecil Collins. Mae and Cecil were married on April 7, 1947 in Colby, Kansas. Mae was later employed by the Scott County Treasurer’s office as a clerk and by the Scott County Welfare office.
Mae and Cecil move to Phillipsburg in 1976. Mae worked at the Phillips County Health Department and as a salesperson for Avon. Cecil passed away on July 13, 1986 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. After Cecil’s death, Mae returned to Scott City. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at the hospital for a few years and was very involved with her grandchildren.
Mae remained a widow for fifteen years. On September 2, 2000 in Abernathy, Texas she was married to Paul Hillery. They have resided in Scott City until the recent time and have enjoyed being among the people of the community.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Beta Sigma Phi all of Scott City, Kansas. Her hobbies included flower gardening, fashion, interior decorating and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
Mae is survived by: Husband – Paul Hillery of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sons – Jim & Linda Collins of Scott City, Kansas, Tim and Diana Collins of Wichita, Kansas, One Sister – Mary Iseminger of Kansas City, Two Granddaughters – Meagan Collins and Darci Collins; One Grandson – Joshua Collins and Two Great Grandchildren – Brylie and Carson Bennett. Her stepchildren include: Larry Hillery, Greg Hillery, Marcia and Craig Matthies all of Scott City, Kansas, Five Step-Grandchildren – Toby and Jacki Matthies, Lucas Matthies and Amanda Ruth, Blake Hillery, Bretton Hillery and Brittany Hillery, and Two Step-Great Grandchildren – Cooper Matthies and Harper Matthies.
She was preceded in death by her Parents and Two Brothers.
