Accident in Scott County kills one
SCOTT COUNTY — The state of Kansas was shook on Sunday with blizzard-like conditions throughout the day, causing many road closures and low visibility across the state. The bad weather was a cause for a fatal accident in Scott County on Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. when a Jeep driven by 18-year-old Kieran McGill was travelling southbound on US-83 when she lost control. The vehicle then collided with a semi that was heading northbound on US-83. The driver of the semi was 62-year-old Gary Bowman of Smithville, Missouri.
McGill, a native of Thornton, Colorado was pronounced dead at the scene. Bowman was taken to the Scott County Hospital for medical treatment.
The accident occurred at mile marker 120.3 on US-83 or 4.5 miles north of the K95 and US-83 junction.
