Olpe Girls Too Much for Bucklin
Emporia, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Bucklin knew they would be in a battle with an undefeated Olpe Eagle squad Friday night. A slow start hurt their chances to pull off the upset, as the Lady Eagles take a 54-43 game Friday night at White Auditorium.
The Lady Red Aces were outscored 16-4 in the first stanza, and were forced to play catch up the rest of the game. After a 26-13 halftime deficit, Bucklin was able to outscore the Lady Eagles by two points the second half. Olpe shot 40% for the game, and hit five more three’s than the Lady Red Aces, which turned out to be the difference of the game. The Lady Eagles (25-0) saw Elena Flott score a game-high 23 points and grabbed 11 boards, while Janae Haag pitched in 11. Buckin (18-6) had Janae Price lead the way with 12 points.
Olpe will head to the state championship game, and will take on undefeated Hoxie at 4 pm Saturday. The Lady Indians defeated St. John 47-41. Buckin faces that Lady Tiger team at 12 pm Saturday in the third place game.
